I am now writing these stories in chapters/pages. So, there are no "posts" that the computer will see to send you updates. You have to save this link and come back from time to time to see what is new. Below this paragraph you will see "pages" as I add them. As one page gets to long for the scroll challenged and when the area changes I will add a new page.
For the Cross Egypt Chalenge you will have to go to http://crossegypt2014.blogspot.com/. This story will begin around 10 November. I will make a note in the body of the blog with a link when I move to that phase. Afterwards, if I spend more time in Europe, I will return here to write.

Ch 4 Paris

Hooray!!!!!!  We survived the Cross Egypt Challenge 2014.  I was not sure I would live through the last hour of the event to the closing ceremony at the Pyramids and later found out Vicki was sure that I was probably laying beside the road as she was not sure she was going to make it in the support van alive. IT WAS A HELL OF A RIDE.
We are safely in the apartment in Paris behind the Notre Dame and are not sure we will go out for the few days here as we are afraid of any traffic!!!! Maybe tomorrow I will start writing about the adventure.

I even got a certificate to prove it

It gets no better than a baguette, ham, some fine cheese and a bottle of chilled Veuve served in Paris

The weather is overcast and light rain.  I love it.

The Apartment
We have several apartments we use around town, but for short stays we use Cobblestone apartments. They have 19 apartments around Paris and they cost a little more but are worth it. Most apartments you are not sure what will be there. At Cobblestone you know that everything you need from coffee to toilet paper to umbrellas are there and you will have a Cobblestone greeter to take care of you or your questions.  We chose a one bedroom on Isle Saint Louis behind Notre Dame. You have to be careful what you bring to Paris as this apartment like many has no lift and you lug your stuff up winding narrow old staircases. We are met by Lauren at the cafe on the corner and she takes to our home for a few days. Lauren is great and so is the apartment.

Lunch
Frank is a meat and potatoes man so today we went out the front door and to the corner bassierie for lunch. The special was steak with blue cheese sauce, potatoes and squash with some Nouveau Beaujolais followed with a expresso.  We loved it. Hope you enjoyed it Frank.

Walking Paris
Paris is getting ready for Christmas.  Not as crazy as us, but every year you see more and more decorations.  Even the Pope is getting into it with a big tree. You always hear “put Christ back in Christmas”. Well, in fact Christ never was in Christmas until some religious zealots decided they did not like people having fun and reinvented in America in the 19th century. It wasn’t until the 19th century that Americans began to embrace Christmas. Americans re-invented Christmas, and changed it from a raucous carnival holiday into a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia.” Looks like history is going to repeat itself.

We got to no museums, no fashion show, only a couple of meals out but we did get to do our favorite thing.....walk.  It was wet and cold be we did not care. We got fortified with vine chaud (hot wine) along the way.  It is Paris.

hot wine everywhere

our favorite little Vietnamese restaurant

he drove all the way from California to get booted

at Luxemburg gardens there is usually a art display on the fence. This month it was  pictures, mainly of bugs and lizards, hanging on the fence mostly from France and Madagascar.  We walked along the fence and out jumped my friend the Lemur.

Goodbye
Sadly we are leaving early tomorrow. U.S. airlines cut back on there flights to Europe on Thanksgiving and in fact USAir has none for two days to Paris. I would stay until next week but Vicki has cat withdrawal and a art exhibit so we are headed home..
